Specialist Jane Green, of Lincoln, NE, died on January 20, 2014 in Paktika, Afghanistan while in defense of her country. She was 28 years old.
Spc. Green was born on June 15, 1985 in Lincoln, NE. She was a member of ROTC at the University of Nebraska, where she graduated in 2008. She was trained as a Heavy Vehicle Operator at the training site in Ashland, NE. In July, 2010, she was deployed to Afghanistan, where she served as a Specialist for the 33rd Infantry and an Equipment Crewman. She was a decorated veteran with two tours under her belt when she was killed by an IED beneath her truck.
Spc. Green is survived by her mother and father, Nina and Liam Green of Lincoln, NE; her sister, Maria of Omaha, NE; her brother, Jared and her sister-in-law, Tina of Kansas City, KS. Spc. Green was a kind and protective soul who believed in justice and equality. She worked hard to excel in everything she did and always put others ahead of herself. She enjoyed playing soccer, cooking Thai food, and volunteering at the animal rescue shelter in her hometown.
A memorial will take place on February 1, 2014 at the All Saints Catholic Church in Lincoln, NE. A finger-food potluck will be served at the reception hall after the service; all are welcome to attend and share a memory or story of Jane. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the 33rd Infantry.
