Jacob Harmon died June 18, 2020, at age 62 in Anytown, CA. He passed into the next life at his family cabin at Lake Bear, his favorite place in the world.
He leaves behind his parents, Kyle and Marion, and his beloved big sister, Morgan.
Jacob was born April 22, 1958, on what would eventually become Earth Day. His first word was "out," because he constantly wanted to go outside.
He graduated from Humboldt State University in 1980 with a bachelor of science degree in Natural Sciences. He was immediately hired as a naturalist for the Natural Parks System and worked in several parks before settled in Yosemite. Jacob was an avid hiker and thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail five times under the trail name Navigator58. He was an advocate of humane trapping and relocation of invasive wildlife, and he read Aldo Leopold's A Sand County Almanac well over a hundred times.
Jacob will be cremated and his ashes spread at the shores of Lake Bear. In lieu of flowers, mourners are asked to plant a tree in Jacob's memory or donate to the wildlands cause of your choice.
