Lowell Landingham III died Nov. 17, 2022 at age 80 in Anytown, Calif.
Born on March 3, 1942, Lowell was one of two children born to Lowell and Ruby Landingham. Lowell Landingham II was a third-generation rice grower, but it was Lowell III who convinced his father and brother to transition to organic farming in the late 1960s. Lowell Family Farms is now known as a leader in sustainability, with its non-GMO rice and quinoa products sold all over the world.
Lowell raised two children on the family farm 10 miles outside of Anytown: Lowell IV and Nicola. Nicola succeeded Lowell II as CEO of Lowell Family Farms, and Lowell IV is a key board member and director of international sales.
Lowell III sat on the board of directors for the California Rice Association for decades, and also served in multiple roles with the County Farm Bureau, representing the region nationally and assisting in lobbying efforts.
His greatest achievement was the love of his family. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Katrina, as well as their children. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother Denver.
A memorial service will be held Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. at Anytown Lutheran Church. Lowell Landingham III will also be honored at the December meeting of the state Farm Bureau.
