   Obituary For A Pet-Lover

Michelle “Shelly” Perez died June 6, 2023 at age 59 in Anytown, Calif.

She was born Jan. 1, 1964, in Durango, Colo., to Samuel and Rosario Perez.

Shelly was a tireless advocate for animals, and practically everyone who knew her was aware of all she did to help cats, dogs and other pets. Over the years, she volunteered for: Anytown Animal Shelter, Anycounty Animal Disaster Rescue and the annual Bark in the Park fundraiser. She was a familiar and friendly face at the nonprofit Paws for Good Thrift Shop.

She also served on the board of the Anytown Animal Shelter, and was key to securing matching grant funds from CatFood Corp. and advocating to the City Council for the 2015 shelter expansion. Also, Shelly trained new volunteers for the Anycounty Animal Disaster Rescue group, which goes in and saves animals threatened by natural disasters and other imminent dangers.

Shelly was always first to volunteer to foster aging pets who were surrendered or survived by their owners. Her own beloved mutts, Hooch and Sass, will be cared for by her niece, Brianna, while her mother will take in Cora Bee the cat.

She is survived by her mother, her sisters Nicole and Carly, and nieces Brianna, Maribel and Louisa.

No services will be held. Donations may be made to any of the animal-related groups that Shelly supported.
